From this feedback and my research I decided to create a video using Andrew Goodwin's theory that fit into the Alternative Rock Genre and used a mixture of performance and narrative.
I was unhappy with the video; the lighting was too bright and didn't fit the dark, gloomy lyrics and the editing was poor and amateurish. I decided to re shoot the video. I showed the video to several people and got back the following feedback:
- The black and white doesn't work.
- faster editing is needed.
- Needs to look more like a rock video style.
- Emphasize on the theme and narrative.
- Needs Low-Key lighting.
- Use more unconventional camera angles and editing techniques.
Taking all this feedback into consideration, I shot this video.
I think that this video works a lot better. The low key lighting gives the video a much darker feel, which helps the thematic content. The strange sounding instrumental in the middle of the song works well with the unconventional lighting, camera work and editing. In this video I think the mise-en-scene matches the genre and style of the song more effectively and the video does look much better in colour. I think that the feedback helped me improve my video and make it look more professional.
